According to the two associations’ heads, Titi Omo-Ettu, president ATCON and Jimson Olufuye, president ITAN, following the joint action, initial contact and follow-up action has been made to all political parties in respect of the proposed dialogue with their Presidential candidates.Information Technology Association of Nigeria, ITAN in conjunction with the Association of the Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria, ATCON is set to hold talks with Presidential candidates in Nigeria’s forthcoming 2011 general election on ICT industry issues.
Both associations claimed that the response so far has been positive leaving few follow up steps to fine-tune the plans and bring it to reality.
They explained that the objective of the meeting is to “engage the contestants for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in a non-partisan, ICT industry-related discussion with our members to decipher what we can realistically expect should they win the 2011 election.”
Again to expunge any misconception over the real intention of the debate, both Associations stressed that “we will like to impress that the meeting is not a debate among Presidential candidates.”
According to them, the much awaited Presidential dialogue is expected to take place sometime in March this year with further details of when and where to be announced when all plans are more definite
Nigeria’s 2011 general election is billed to take place in April.
